Description

Great Guitar - please check the Fender Custom Shop Link for all Infos # 2018 VINTAGE CUSTOM 1950 DOUBLE ESQUIRE® The first Fender solid body released in 1950 was the single pickup Esquire. Forward thinking players of the day were astounded by the new spectacular instrument but many requested a second pickup in the neck position. Fender responded and offered it as an option. BAM! Oh what a guitar! Then the inevitable question came up "which is it, a single or double pickup guitar?" To answer, Fender discontinued both versions and reintroduced the Guitar as the double pickup Broadcaster. We all know what happened next. The 2018 Vintage Custom 1950 Double Esquire is a tribute to this pre-Broadcaster guitar with a few rare and unusual features thrown in just because. Dubbed "Blackguards" by fans and collectors, the 1950/51 examples we've seen have wildly varying specs-especially neck profiles and fingerboard radii. And in some cases, pickups. Unique features include: - NOS Flash Coat lacquer finish with Closet Classic hardware (guitar looks like it came out of a time-capsule) -2-Piece off center seam ash body (found on many early examples) -1-Piece tinted rift sawn maple neck with maple headstock plug and deep soft "V" backshape (super stable and fat sounding) -7.25"-9.50" compound fingerboard radius (that's right, found on early examples, though surely not intentional) -21 (Jescar) 50085 medium vintage frets (a little bigger than vintage. Works great with the fingerboard radius) -Early rare spec hand-wound '50-'51 Blackguard pickups with larger diameter magnets, slightly thinner magnet wire, and potted in shellac (very juicy) -3-Way switch with modified 1950 wiring- rear pos: bridge with volume and neck blend (the lost Broadcaster tones are found here); middle pos: neck with volume only (loud and clear); front pos: neck with modified rhythm circuit (a little bit lower in volume and warmer than the middle position) -Comes with center pocket tweed case; strap (Missing: Fat '50s Tele wiring control assembly if you want to switch out the controls (won't sound as good though!)
