I’m selling this truly beautiful Tele on behalf of a friend (just so you know, since I had announced that I wouldn’t be buying any more guitars for the shop). It’s a “player’s guitar,” which basically means there are a few things that might not interest the pure collector as much, but that should make the instrument appealing to an active musician, since those “issues” also contribute to the lower price. First off, the wood and (the beautifully aged) finish are 100% original. An original pot with the correct '66 date is still installed (tone), while the volume pot has been replaced. The neck pickup was rewound by Andreas Kloppmann; the bridge pickup is also rewound, though it’s not known who did the job—but it sounds great (see video!). All plastic wiring has been replaced with cloth-wrapped wire. According to the serial number, the Tele is either from '69 or '70—both are possible according to the Gruhn book. There is no neck date. It used to have different tuners—now it has original-style tuners that work very smoothly. The beautifully shaped medium neck has been perfectly refretted by Oliver Baron (Helliver, Baron Guitars)—and plays excellently!! It comes with a case from the 1990s that is at least sturdy and provides excellent protection for the guitar during shipping. By the way, I really enjoyed recording the video—the sound of this Tele immediately inspired me to play a bit in a jazzy Robben Ford style. Here you can hear the progression of the clip, from clean tones to overdrive.
